Commemoration

Friday November 21 is the first annual Illuminate event in downtown Plymouth, Massachusetts and we want you to be a part of the Illuminate 2014 experience!
Join us at Cole’s Hill in downtown Plymouth on Friday, November 21 at 4pm for Illuminate 2014, an event designed to “illuminate” the inspirational message of thanks and gratitude that accompanies Thanksgiving, a holiday that highlights the unique relationship between the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag people. The program will include words from Senate President Therese Murray and acclaimed speaker, author and international stress management and humorist Loretta LaRoche; and performances by the United States Air Force’s touring performance ensemble Tops in Blue and Plymouth North High School’s a cappella group Northern Lights.
Join in the fun by downloading the Illuminate 2014 mobile app, available for Apple and Android devices! With this app, users can create their own Illuminate experiences by lighting a virtual candle wherever they may be. We also encourage users to share their own photos through the the app’s photo-sharing feature, and see what our friends in Plymouth, England “illuminate” on November 20 at their own Illuminate 2014 event!
Our sister-city in England will be engaged in our local Illuminate 2014 event throguh social media sharing and a special Plymouth-to-Plymouth video that will air at Cole’s Hill. Join in the conversation online using #Illuminate2014.
After the candles are lit, we invite you to join us for a Thanksgiving Street Festival on Main and Court Streets where visitors and locals can enjoy live art and music, special offers at shops and restaurants, and more. Starting at historic Leyden Street (named after the city in Holland that offered the Pilgrims refuge before coming to America), we’ll be showcasing Plymouth’s restaurants and shops. Attendees will be greeted by an enchanting array of local and regional visual and performing artists including historic re-enactors like First Nations Women Warriors Color Guard, Freemen of the Sea, Jenney Museum Pilgrims, New Plimmoth Gard, and Vintage Red Stockings; and music will include Grand 27, The Sibs, The American Originals, Emily Hodges, Willie Dinardo & the Corporates, and more creating some glowing memories.
Don’t miss out on this new kick-off to Plymouth’s world-famous Thanksgiving weekend!
